Sedgefield woman to apply for bail

A woman from Sedgefield, who allegedly ran a fake holiday rental scheme, will appear in the Thembalethu Magistrates court on Thursday 11 July to apply for bail.

The 32 year old woman, Marianne Roux, first appeared in court on 21 June 2019, after she was arrested at her home. She has been in custody ever since.

According to Capt. Malcolm Poje, spokesperson for the South African Police service, Roux allegedly acted as an estate agent and in the process defrauded holidaymakers and accommodation establishments out of thousands of rands.

Roux operated her business online using facebook, selling fake holiday accommodation to travellers. She allegedly received deposits for accommodation bookings which she then kept for personal gain.

At least 13 victims from as far as Belville, Kempton Park, and Lephalale already came forward, and it is expected that more victims will be added to the list.

Roux operated throughout The Garden Route.
