Roads re-opened after violent protests

The N2 at Nekkies in Knysna as well as the section between the Garden Route Mall and Thembalethu has been re-opened for traffic after violent protests (riots) caused the closure of the road on 20 June 2018.

The police are investigating reports of a house being set alight and the looting of an informal shop in Thembalethu during the early hours of Thursday 21 June 2018.

Police arrested 22 people for public violence since Wednesday morning. Violent protestors also damaged two trucks on the N2 at Nekkies in Knysna during the night of 20 June.

According to Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, the police are monitoring the situation and maintaining high visibility patrols in Thembalethu making use of the public order police.

Although the situation is described as calm and normal, but remain volatile. Currently the situation is still volatile but calm and normalised.
