Update - couple killed in accident

The names of the victims who died in a horrific accident on Sunday night 7 January 2018 on the R404 (George airport road) have been released. They were the 53 year old Flippie Becker, and his 55 year old wife, Dot.

Flippie, a well-known broker from Kinberley was traveling from Kimberley to Rheebok when the accident happened. Besides Dot, there were three other passengers in the vehicle, 81 year old Susan le Grange, 78 year old Nannie Müller, as well as the couple's granddaughter, 7 year old Eldoné Cornelius.

It is alleged that the driver of a heavy duty vehicle performed a U-turn in the road near the 4-Brothers Potato Store on the R404 when the Becker's Audi Q5 collided with the truck, killing Flippie and his wife instantly.

It took rescue personnel several hours to free the bodies from the wreckage. The three survivors of the accident were taken to hospitals in George with injuries ranging from serious to critical.

Le Grange was released from hospital after treatment, while Müller remain and 7 year old Eldoné remain in hospital. According to a spokesperson, Eldoné is receiving treatment for a skull fracture as well as a lung and back injury.

The truck driver was not injured in the accident.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
